Welcome back to “The Smack“. As the school year drifts into our sights, the never ending question of “Who is coming to play near us?” lingers. So far we have Bassnectar Greensboro in late September and a few other around the triad area.
As little-to-none of you know, I took summer classes at HPU. Every weekend I was greeted with a new batch of freshman that clearly were so far oblivious to what was going on it was incredible. Every one of them enjoyed EDM music and were always quick to jump on a conversation about their favorite artists…Skrillex, Avicii…I couldn’t have guessed those, fucking idiots. It seems the conversation about EDM and its direction changes daily with the uprising of mau5 on twitter calling out DJ’s that, “push buttons”. Regardless of what any of them say, the trend is that it continues to get bigger. Looking at it from the outside point of view I think that is true, in sense of numbers. But as the crowds continue to get larger, the people that have been listening from the start seem to vanish and immediately get replaced by immature and inexperienced 16-18 year old kids. The older-timers just don’t want to deal with the constant bullshit that we deal with at festivals and concerts, this isn’t a Chris Webby concert kid. These kids are not the kind of representation that EDM needs, in my opinion. I guess it comes with age, the whole blatant disregard of everything, but I’ve been there before and I understand the learning process that needs to come through these kids heads. My advice? Rage….ask questions, don’t be a idiot, and most importantly…listen and….enjoy the music.

Avicii’s new Track is here to give it out.It was labeled as “Avicii-new-1.mp3. Word is the track is going to be called “Tim”. It’s not official, but still good, and he’s been played it out live lately. Can’t wait for the official version which looks like it almost here. Turn it up and enjoy.

Brand new mashup from Kaskade. Leaves us with a refreshing feeling, giving mashups a bit of a boost in my mind. Being extremely biased towards Eric Prydz, I think this track is beautiful. Let us know what you think.

Many people have asked me to post this so that they could hear the track in its entirety (unmixed), so here it is. I have not made this song downloadable but you can stream and listen to it here. Two class tracks mashed together to make something special.
Came up with this in April and played it all summer long on my Freaks Of Nature Tour.
