First, you may be asking yourself why the name Prydz sounds so familiar. Perhaps your subconscious is pulling up memories from a 10th grade basement party; shitty beer, whiskey from a watered down bottle someone stole from their parents, and the ever infectiousness ” Call on me” blaring from a home stereo system. Prydz hit it big in 2004 with two singles off of his debut album also named ‘Call On Me’. The song sampled a early 1980′s synth jam called ‘Valerie’ and his next hit ‘ Proper Education’ samples the king of lazer shows, Pink Floyd.
But where is Prydz now? What rock has he crawled under? Was ‘Call on me’ an equivalent to a one hit wonder? Perhaps. But perhaps not. German band Polarkreis18′s ’Allein’ has been given the privileged of being put into the ‘Eric Prydz’ blender. And now a obscure German-pop anthem has been turned into electronic gold. And who said sampling is for the talentless?
So, while Eric Prydz is no longer at the top of his game, and not the hottest DJ on everyone’s tongue, I do think we should take this moment and appreciate a pioneer’s efforts
